About The Show

The Nutcracker is a classical ballet that has become one of the most beloved and iconic holiday traditions worldwide. It features music from the Russian composer Tchaikovsky and tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives a magical nutcracker doll from her godfather on Christmas Eve. That night, the Nutcracker comes to life, leading Clara on an enchanting holiday adventure.

Our show on December 14th will be a unique adaptation, featuring selections from the original, while also incorporating numbers from various dance genres. Our recreational and company students have been rehearsing since September and they can’t wait to debut their routines!

A New Performance Opportunity

In previous years, most of our students got one formal performance opportunity at our year-end Spring Recital. This year’s 25th anniversary special performance gives them two formal performances on stage, which we believe is incredibly valuable for building a child’s confidence! They learn to work through those pre-performance jitters, face their fears, and trust themselves. The excitement they share along the way truly makes it very special for everyone involved.

Holiday Fun for The Whole Family

In addition to teaching kids valuable skills, this performance will create sweet holiday memories for our dancers. We know how special the holidays can be for children, and there’s something extra magical about the excitement of a holiday show. There’s an undeniable warmth that comes with being a part of something bigger than ourselves during this time of year. The twinkling lights, the familiar music, a spectacular growing tree, the costumes, and the joy of watching our students shine on stage—it’s a memory you’ll cherish as a family for years to come.

Finding the perfect summer activity for your child is about more than just giving them a chance to play! It’s their 3 months of a free schedule and the ability to let loose without the added pressures of the school year. We adore the amount of positivity and carefree energy that we see in our students during the summer, which is precisely why we see summer dance as SO beneficial for them!

Dancing through the summer is great for kids of all ages, and we can’t wait to share the many reasons why!

7 Perks to Dancing Over the Summer:

Perks for little ones…

Even our tiniest dancers get a chance to dance during the summer! From Twirling Twos and Preschool Dance, to Princess and Fairytale Camps, we’ve got just what your preschooler needs to have a sensational time this summer! Here’s what they’ll gain from dancing with us:

1. A Great Way to Stay Social
Preschoolers need constant socialization and opportunities to put their social skills to the test! Taking turns, personal space, and being kind are all things we’ll be practicing this summer.

2. A Chance to Use Their Imagination
At our 2-day Princess Camp and 4-day Fairytale Camp, your little one’s summer days will be transformed into magical adventures! They’ll tiptoe through our ballroom, sing to their favorite Disney tunes, and explore the world of their wildest dreams!

3. A Refreshing Learning Environment
Visiting the studio over the summer for classes or camps reminds your child what a learning environment looks and feels like while they’re taking a break from preschool! We keep it exciting, and engaging while keeping their bodies and minds hard at work!

Perks for older dancers…

For kids ages 6+, (and our DUPC dancers), we’ve got technique classes galore this summer! Divided up by levels that correspond with your dancer’s school year class level, we’ve got everything you need to keep your training moving full speed ahead!

1. Keeping Up With Skills All Year Round!
Our students make SO much progress during the school year and we hate seeing them lose it after not dancing for 3 months. We’ll be doing technique drills, strengthening our bodies, and building muscle memory in classes this summer!

2. Heightened Focus
Summer gives your child a chance to really hone in on their dance skills without the added stress of the school year. Our summer students are always more focused and engaged without their busy schedules and homework stress!

3. Intensive Experiences
Every summer we offer 3 Summer Camps that are jam-packed with amazing training! Our Diva Camp, Shooting Star Camp, and All Star Experience camp will help your dancer take their dancing to the next level!

4. A Leg up for DUPC Auditions

We’ve got a very solid group of veteran dance parents here at Dance Unlimited that know all the ins and outs of recital season. It’s our goal to make all of our brand new dance parents feel just as comfortable and confident! Our all-inclusive tuition system, studio policies, and top-notch supportive staff make being a new dance parent EASY (or at least a little less overwhelming!)

Is it your child’s very first dance recital? Below are just a few ways that DU helps you rock it like a pro!

• Your all-inclusive tuition takes several necessities off the list. Recital tights, accessories, two tickets, a recital t-shirt, and a yearbook are ALL included in your monthly tuition payment. To learn more about how convenient our tuition system is, check out our previous blog post here!
• Between your Parent Portal, email inbox, and our recital headquarters page, you’ve got ALL the important details. We make sure that you don’t have to go hunting for dates, rehearsal times, hair and makeup requirements, or ticket information. Check those inboxes often!
• We sell nude leotards! Serving as the perfect undergarment for the big day, nude leotards allow your children to change into and out of costumes quickly backstage while remaining covered. Additionally, nude leos make it easy for them to wear warm-ups to and from the theater, keeping their costume in tip-top shape!
• Hair tutorials are available… Follow along with these tutorials and your child’s first-recital hair will be show-stoppingly beautiful!
  • Classic Ballet Bun
  • Easier Ballet Bun
  • French Braids
• A few bonus costume dos and don’ts:
  • Do use steam, DON’T iron!
  • Do label everything with your child’s name ( where it won’t be seen from the audience). Shoes, accessories, costumes, everything!
  • Do create a separate ziploc bag (labeled of course) for accessories.

With these tips, you’ll have a stress-free recital experience, leaving tons of room for cherishing the sweet memories. A child’s first dance recital is something that you both will treasure forever. For many, it’s the start of a life-long passion. For others, it’s the beginning of newfound confidence that will be taken into other passions as well. Either way, our veteran dance parents will tell you that it’s one of the most special days in a child’s early years!

We can’t wait for some AMAZING performances on June 16-18! It’s going to be a fantastic showcase of our students’ hard work, dedication, and talent!

To pass this value of community on to our students, we strive to take dance in Augusta beyond just our DU walls. Between community service projects, fun events, and more, we take every opportunity to spread positivity and kindness throughout our community.

So how do we help our dancers soar beyond the studio? We’d love to tell you on today’s blog!

Check out the 3 Ways We Spread Dance Throughout the Community:

1. Giving During the Holidays

The holidays are for giving, so we always use this time of year to spread holiday cheer in our community. This past holiday season, our dancers decorated wreaths and donated holiday socks for local residents at the Veterans Home and the Comfort Care Center at Glenridge.

Other holiday charity projects that DU participates in include our Have a Heart food drive, participating in local holiday Angel Trees, and sending Valentines to Nursing Homes in February. Our dancers learn the joy of giving back to the greater community, while also connecting and building friendships with each other.

2. Hosting Community Events Open to All

We don’t JUST offer weekly dance classes here at the studio. We strive to make our programs accessible to all and a place where people can come together, because dance in Augusta is for everyone in Augusta! That’s why we host several events throughout the year that are open to the public. Our one-time events give new students the opportunity to see what dance class is like without the extended commitment. And our current students LOVE the extra opportunity to meet new friends and come to the studio for special events!

Our most recent event, Nutcracker Tea for ages 4-9, is our annual way to kick off the holiday season with every dancer’s favorite magical story. Check out some pictures from this year’s Nutcracker tradition! Other community events that we love hosting include Ballerina Brunch, Summer Camps, and more! Stay tuned for details on our Tutu Tea Party, celebrating Tutu Day happening THIS February!

3. Performing In Our Community

Our dancers work hard each week rehearsing their routines and creating amazing artistic works. We love helping them share their hard work with audiences throughout the area. Augusta’s Holiday Tree Lighting and Red Claws Halftime Shows are just some of the performances we’ve done in the past. We look forward to getting back to LIVE community performances to share our love of dance SOON! Click here to learn more about DUPC, our studio’s performance company, on one of our earlier blog posts!

Dance in Augusta is more than just training. And Dance Unlimited is more than just a studio. It’s a place where kids come together, connect with others, and build community. Across our many opportunities for engagement and service, our students learn the value of sharing their passions and using them to bring joy into the world around them.

Thank you for being a part of our wonderful community, and thank you for supporting your dancers!

Does your child never stop practicing their skills and recital routines around the house? Do they start grooving every time they hear music? Is our year-end recital something that your child looks forward to ALL year long?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, we’d love to tell you about the Dance Unlimited Performance Company (DUPC). Made up of roughly 40 dancers ages 8-18, DUPC rehearses, trains, and performs throughout the year at various community events and competitions. It’s the number one way to get more opportunities to perform, train, and grow!

So today on the blog, we’re breaking it down by answering some of the questions we hear most often. Join us below for a quick Q&A that will give you an idea of what DUPC is all about!

How is DUPC different from your School-Year Programs?

DUPC dancers train and rehearse weekly in addition to their dance classes. They also get the opportunity to perform in several extra performances throughout the year aside from our annual recital. It’s a way to perform more and really take a students’ dance training to the next level!

What kind of extra performances does DUPC do?

Performance opportunities can include but are not limited to the Maine Redclaws halftime, Boston Celtics prime time performances, Walt Disney World performances, local holiday performances, and attending dance competitions and workshops each year. Lastly, DUPC dancers perform in our recital finale! Click here to check out some pictures from our most recent convention and competition!

Who can be a part of DUPC?

Dancers ages 10 and up who LOVE to dance and complete our two-part audition process.

What is the audition process like?

Dancers must attend our open audition night, followed by our Summer Camp Intensive. Based on their level and abilities, our staff will invite them to join the company and place them in the correct training program. Our youngest members are generally invited to participate in an introductory year to allow them to experience company with a little less commitment.

What is the training commitment for DUPC?

DUPC dancers are driven and determined to enhance their technique and performance quality. In order to accomplish this, members are required to take a minimum of 6 – 10 classes per week, depending on the age of the dancer. Required classes include Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and Acro. On top of these classes, DUPC dancers also have additional rehearsals throughout the year to work on routines.

Do DUPC members participate in activities besides dancing?

Yes! Our DUPC members serve as studio ambassadors. They assist in all community service projects, becoming leaders and role models for all of our studio values.

Are there opportunities to do more dance competitions/routines?

Yes! The DUPCE is a brand new program that stands for Dance Unlimited Performance Company Elite. It is made up of elite level dancers who love competing. This team has a higher commitment level and grants opportunities for solo, duet, trio, and small group routines. They will travel to 3-4 additional competitions and conventions per year!

What does my child gain from being a part of DUPC?

This is by far our favorite question to answer because the benefits of DUPC are simply life-changing for our dancers. Here are just a few:

• • Leadership
  • Discipline
  • Teamwork & Community
  • Empowerment
  • A Dance Family

Our DUPC and DUPCE grow as dancers and inspirational leaders throughout the year. With all that our DUPC members accomplish throughout the year, it wouldn’t be possible without our fabulous company director Mrs. Bri!

Mrs. Bri has served under Mrs. Laura as the assistant director for a few years and was officially promoted into the role of Company Director earlier this year. Along with DUPC Faculty, she leads our dancers, runs rehearsals, and helps set the vision for the future of our performance company program. She is a wonderful mentor to our dancers and we are SO lucky to have her as a part of our team!

If any of these details about DUPC sound like something your child would LOVE, we’d love to hear from you! Contact us here or reach out to Mrs. Bri with any questions. Auditions aren’t until next summer, but it’s never too early to start thinking about joining our advanced dance programs!

Looking for ways to support our DUPC dancers? Current DU families can stop by our annual. Trunk or Treat event this Friday where we’ll be collecting donations! Register HERE!

The post At DU, We Go All In(clusive)! appeared first on Dance Unlimited, LLC.

Our absolute FAVORITE time of year has begun: Recital Season! Our dances are coming to life, we’ve started sending our shimmering costumes home, and we’re officially preparing our students for the best dance recital in Augusta!

Earlier this month, we announced our 2021 Recital Theme: The Journey is Yours! We are so excited to take the audience on a dance-filled adventure! While our recital venue details are still taking shape during this time, we’re again committed to offering a fantastic experience for our families, whatever it may look like!

Recital information can be difficult to keep track of, especially for first-time dance parents. Between costume care, rehearsal schedules, and getting your child ready, it can be tricky to sort through it all! Whether you’re new or returning, we’re eager to help all of our dance families have a smooth recital experience.

With the help of our veteran dance parents and teachers, we’ve put together this huge list of tips and tricks for the best dance recital in Augusta! Check it out!

Before Recital Week:

• • Read ALL your DU Recital Emails! Over the next couple of months, we’ll be sending out ALL the vital info. Rehearsal schedules, dates, and day-of must-haves will all be in your inboxes! Don’t forget to mark those calendars early and put DU emails in a folder for quick access.  In addition, you can always find your emails in the Parent Portal too!
  • Hang your tutus upside down and let shower steam take care of the wrinkles! Whatever you do, DON’T iron!
  • Label EVERYTHING! Put your child’s initials in all of their costume tags. Don’t forget about shoes, tights, and accessory bags.
  • Add a Ziploc bag on each costume hanger for hairpieces and accessories!
  • Invest in a nude leotard and a clothing rack for easy costume changes. DU sells nude leotards that serve as the perfect undergarment during quick changes. Your dancer can arrive with warm-ups over their leotard and slip their costume on top. Clothing racks are a must-have for students with tons of dances!
  • Check out some ballet bun tutorials on Youtube! This video is great for a classic ballet bun, and this video uses a bun maker tool which can be a little easier!
  • Encourage your dancer to perform their routine for you at home. This can really help with those pre-show jitters!

On the Big Day:

• • Build in more time than you think for getting your dancer ready. Hair, make-up, and packing your costume bag take time. There’s nothing worse than rushing!
  • Pack a bag of hair and makeup supplies for touch-ups.
  • Be sure to secure hair pieces with TONS of bobby pins. They can fall out easily.
  • Have your dancer wear a button-up or zip-up jacket on their way to and from recital. This is the best way to avoid hair and makeup struggles!
  • Pack mess-free snacks and water only! We don’t want to ruin those beautiful costumes.
  • Take pictures, but be sure to put the phone down and live in the moment! You’ll cherish these memories forever.
  • No stress, no problems! The community amongst our DU parents and staff is remarkable. There is always someone around to help you out and ease your worries.

We asked our veteran dance parents to help us make this list and let’s just say they exceeded our expectations! In addition to practical tips, they shared some heartwarming thoughts about recital week. Check out some quotes below for a sneak peek of the DU recital magic!

“Don’t stress. Every single minute has been carefully planned by the DU staff! TRUST them! They are PROFESSIONALS!” ~Desireé L

“One of the best things about DU and recital time is the true feeling of the DU family. Everyone treats the person next to them like they were their own. Enjoy and watch the kids shine. You will see them like you have never seen them before.” ~Troy T.

“These kids and staff have worked hard all year long and can’t wait for you to be there. These moments pass by too fast. Enjoy every moment.” ~Melissa W.

We’re working hard in class to perfect our recital routines and prepare our dancers! Be sure to follow us on Facebook for sneak peeks and recital updates! We can’t wait to host the best dance recital in Augusta and share this special day with our dancers!
