Recital 2023: Simply Legendary

This year’s recital theme was a celebration of various music and movie legends over the years. Our students embraced the songs and dance moves of the world’s greatest superstars, and became superstars themselves along the way! 

We hosted five spectacular shows with dance performances from our twirling twos all the way up to our graduating seniors and adult programs. Each and every show was a giant success and our students’ sparkling smiles lit up the stage. 

In addition to amazing performances, we also announced the recipients of our 2023 Cynthia Sproul Memorial “Dancing Heart” Scholarship. This award was created to honor the memory of Mrs. Laura’s mother, Cynthia, who lost her battle with cancer in 2021. This year’s announcement was particularly special because the former recipients from the past two years joined us to pass on the tradition. Congratulations to our 2023 Recipients, Ava Marchand and Hope Zuis!

Between witnessing some beautiful dancing, recognizing our students’ incredible accomplishments, and being a part of priceless memories, it was a weekend worth celebrating. Walt Disney World 2023

Immediately following Recital festivities, the hardworking members of the Dance Unlimited Performance Company headed to Disney World to participate in the Disney Youth Performing Arts Program. In case you missed their performance, we livestreamed it on Facebook! Click here to view.

After 5 shows and countless smiles, we couldn’t help but want to share some of the magic. This month’s blog post is a recital recap for those who didn’t get to see all of our performances, or those who love admiring our students’ successes as much as we do!

A Few Highlights from Recital 2022:

• 5 performances of simply STELLAR dancing! From our Twinkle Toes to our Adult Classes, our dancers exemplified the courage, dedication, and confidence that it takes to hit the stage! They danced beautifully and we could not be more proud.
• Congratulations to Bailee Roes, the recipient of our 2022 Cynthia Sproul “Dancing Heart” Memorial Scholarship! ​​This special award was created to honor the memory of Mrs. Laura’s mother, Cynthia, who lost her battle with cancer on May 22, 2021. Mimi, as she was better known, had a lifelong love of dance and shared that passion with Mrs. Laura.
• Over $3,000 in scholarships and prizes! We love recognizing our student’s hard work. Congratulations to Riley Fish, Alyvia Cleary & Elia Morgan, our top 3 scholarship winners!
• Keepsakes and gifts for our dancers. Each of our performers received a special Recital T-Shirt, full color Recital Program Yearbook, and a star dancer medal for their accomplishments this year. We love giving our students keepsakes to look back on their Recital memories fondly for years to come!

We’ve got a very solid group of veteran dance parents here at Dance Unlimited that know all the ins and outs of recital season. It’s our goal to make all of our brand new dance parents feel just as comfortable and confident! Our all-inclusive tuition system, studio policies, and top-notch supportive staff make being a new dance parent EASY (or at least a little less overwhelming!)

Is it your child’s very first dance recital? Below are just a few ways that DU helps you rock it like a pro!

• Your all-inclusive tuition takes several necessities off the list. Recital tights, accessories, two tickets, a recital t-shirt, and a yearbook are ALL included in your monthly tuition payment. To learn more about how convenient our tuition system is, check out our previous blog post here! 
• Between your Parent Portal, email inbox, and our recital headquarters page, you’ve got ALL the important details. We make sure that you don’t have to go hunting for dates, rehearsal times, hair and makeup requirements, or ticket information. Check those inboxes often!
• We sell nude leotards! Serving as the perfect undergarment for the big day, nude leotards allow your children to change into and out of costumes quickly backstage while remaining covered. Additionally, nude leos make it easy for them to wear warm-ups to and from the theater, keeping their costume in tip-top shape! 
• Hair tutorials are available… Follow along with these tutorials and your child’s first-recital hair will be show-stoppingly beautiful! 
  • Classic Ballet Bun
  • Easier Ballet Bun
  • French Braids
• A few bonus costume dos and don’ts:
  • Do use steam, DON’T iron! 
  • Do label everything with your child’s name ( where it won’t be seen from the audience). Shoes, accessories, costumes, everything!
  • Do create a separate ziploc bag (labeled of course) for accessories.

With these tips, you’ll have a stress-free recital experience, leaving tons of room for cherishing the sweet memories. A child’s first dance recital is something that you both will treasure forever. For many, it’s the start of a life-long passion. For others, it’s the beginning of newfound confidence that will be taken into other passions as well. Either way, our veteran dance parents will tell you that it’s one of the most special days in a child’s early years! 

We can’t wait for some AMAZING performances on June 16-18! It’s going to be a fantastic showcase of our students’ hard work, dedication, and talent!

Our absolute FAVORITE time of year has begun: Recital Season! Our dances are coming to life, we’ve started sending our shimmering costumes home, and we’re officially preparing our students for the best dance recital in Augusta! 

Earlier this month, we announced our 2021 Recital Theme: The Journey is Yours! We are so excited to take the audience on a dance-filled adventure! While our recital venue details are still taking shape during this time, we’re again committed to offering a fantastic experience for our families, whatever it may look like! 

Recital information can be difficult to keep track of, especially for first-time dance parents. Between costume care, rehearsal schedules, and getting your child ready, it can be tricky to sort through it all! Whether you’re new or returning, we’re eager to help all of our dance families have a smooth recital experience. 

With the help of our veteran dance parents and teachers, we’ve put together this huge list of tips and tricks for the best dance recital in Augusta! Check it out!

Before Recital Week:

• • Read ALL your DU Recital Emails! Over the next couple of months, we’ll be sending out ALL the vital info. Rehearsal schedules, dates, and day-of must-haves will all be in your inboxes! Don’t forget to mark those calendars early and put DU emails in a folder for quick access.  In addition, you can always find your emails in the Parent Portal too!
  • Hang your tutus upside down and let shower steam take care of the wrinkles! Whatever you do, DON’T iron!
  • Label EVERYTHING! Put your child’s initials in all of their costume tags. Don’t forget about shoes, tights, and accessory bags.
  • Add a Ziploc bag on each costume hanger for hairpieces and accessories! 
  • Invest in a nude leotard and a clothing rack for easy costume changes. DU sells nude leotards that serve as the perfect undergarment during quick changes. Your dancer can arrive with warm-ups over their leotard and slip their costume on top. Clothing racks are a must-have for students with tons of dances!
  • Check out some ballet bun tutorials on Youtube! This video is great for a classic ballet bun, and this video uses a bun maker tool which can be a little easier! 
  • Encourage your dancer to perform their routine for you at home. This can really help with those pre-show jitters! 

On the Big Day:

• • Build in more time than you think for getting your dancer ready. Hair, make-up, and packing your costume bag take time. There’s nothing worse than rushing!
  • Pack a bag of hair and makeup supplies for touch-ups.
  • Be sure to secure hair pieces with TONS of bobby pins. They can fall out easily.
  • Have your dancer wear a button-up or zip-up jacket on their way to and from recital. This is the best way to avoid hair and makeup struggles! 
  • Pack mess-free snacks and water only! We don’t want to ruin those beautiful costumes.
  • Take pictures, but be sure to put the phone down and live in the moment! You’ll cherish these memories forever.  
  • No stress, no problems! The community amongst our DU parents and staff is remarkable. There is always someone around to help you out and ease your worries.
